Pupdate! 🐺 The five critically endangered American Red Wolf pups born at our off-site facility continue to thrive. The litter, consisting of three males and two females, marks another milestone in our efforts to revive the only wolf species native to the United States.
There’s a new conspiracy at the Zoo, with the addition of a 4-year-old female black-and-white ruffed lemur named Volana, or “V” for short. A group of lemurs is called a conspiracy. V joins our males, Albert and Saunders. The word “volana” translates to “moon” in Malagasy, the language spoken in Madagascar, where lemurs are found in the wild. Lemurs live in a matriarchal society where females are the ones in charge. Keepers say V is already staying true to that. Though females lead the way, both males and females are important to a conspiracy. Black-and-white ruffed lemurs are listed as critically endangered under the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) primarily due to hunting and habitat loss. Meet V with Albert and Saunders at Kids’ Zone!
The baby goat herd is getting bigger, and rowdier! 🐐😅
Shredding a coconut is one of our Eurasian eagle owl Forrest’s favorite enrichments behind the scenes. 🥥 The beautiful owl is 19 years old. Eurasian eagle owls are one of the largest owls in the world and are known for their large orange eyes. 👀
