  1. We used to put baby powder in the bed we made for our lions and tigers. I can’t remember why now, but the smell of baby powder sure brings back the memory of those days. It was probably because the natural scent of a lion isn’t really something you want to remember. The young babies aren’t bad, but it doesn’t take too long before that changes! There is a reason they hunt downwind!

  2. The perfume bottles are beautiful 😍 I can always still smell my grandma’s perfume, Youth Dew by Estée Lauder- not too many ppl where it now days but when I do pass someone with it on, I know it immediately & it still makes me cry 🥲

  3. What a beautiful painting, Charlie. I love beautiful perfume bottles. I’m not sure they make them anymore, but I think they’re so special.
You’re absolutely right about scent. It brings back such powerful emotions and memories. Just after my dad died (about a year), my mother and I were in the grocery store when something powerful happened. Hospice people had warned me about strong triggers. I was walking down the aisle and felt like I hit a brick wall. A gentleman standing off to the side was wearing the same cologne/aftershave that my dad used. Holy smokes, Charlie! I was flooded with emotions. I stopped and explained the situation to the gentleman. I tearfully asked him if I could stand next to him quietly and just take in the scent. He got emotional, too, and said that he never dreamt that his cologne would make anyone cry that day. It was a powerful moment. I thanked him and walked away. 😔😔😔
Funny story: I also remember my grandmother whenever I smell moth balls. 😂😂😂 In all honesty, I actually like the smell of moth balls. And Pine-Sol. 😂😂😂😂 Sending big hugs, my friend.

    1. Hola, mi amiga! 😃💕 Oh wow… that’s such a wonderful moment that you had with that man in the grocery store. Sounds like a powerful moment for you both! And too funny on the moth balls… it really isn’t a horrible smell though. hehe Bigs hugs and much love to you! ❤️

  4. Lovely bottles! Love how you use color in your paintings! And delightful essay; certain smells do bring each of us memories! Enjoy Little Shop of Horrors – macabre fun!! 🙂

  5. Gorgeous bottles!! They remind me of opening the new orders with my Nana, the Avon Lady!🥲 She would let me help and even if I didn’t always love the scent, I loved all the beautiful glass bottles with ornate stoppers. Her favorite was ‘Roses Roses’, just like her rose garden. So I have the pleasant memory of our time together, when I smell real roses. (No one wears ‘Roses Roses’ these days😝😂) Oddly enough though, my shampoo has a hint rose water!🤔🌹 Happiest belated Birthday Ever Charlie! We only get better!🎂🤗

    1. Thanks so much! 😃💕 That’s wonderful on those Avon memories. I actually thought of our neighbor Mary while I was sketching these. She was the Avon Lady on our block when I was growing up. Here’s to only getting better with age!!
