Tail of the Dragon at Deals Gap with 318 curves in 11 miles: America’s number one motorcycle and sports car road.
Designated US 129, the road is bordered by the Great Smoky Mountains and the Cherokee National Forest with no intersecting roads or driveways to hamper your travel. It is considered “the destination” for thousands of motorcycle and sports car fans throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Can you brave it? It’s best to be cautious as the turns are tight, but the Tail of the Dragon is guaranteed to be the ride of your life.
The nearby Cherohala Skyway is quickly becoming a destination too, with its remote 60 miles of breathtaking scenic mountain highway. The area also has other incredible roads like the Moonshiner 28, Foothills Parkway, Smoky Mountain Loop, Devils Triangle, Blue Ridge Parkway, The Gambler NC209, Diamondback 226, Devil's Staircase, Six Gap North Georgia, The Snake US421 and many Great Forest Service Dual Sport and Jeep Roads.

Paving Update 5/29/24
Paving crews have the entire southbound lane finished, and 9 of the 11 miles of the northbound lane finished. Both lanes are fully paved from the NC/TN state line to the overlook. All that remains to be paved are a couple of miles north of the overlook down to the Calderwood Lake. We expect that to be finished Thursday 5/30/24, and it will hopefully be completed for this weekend. (updated provided by killboy.com)

Crews now have the entire southbound lane finished, and 9 of the 11 miles of the northbound lane finished. So both lanes are fully paved from the state line to the overlook. All that's left is a couple of miles north of the overlook down to the lakes. We expect that will get knocked out tomorrow/Thursday, and it will be all done before this weekend.

Should be good and slick in the daytime
Awesome!!! I’ll be down next weekend, dreading the 1100 mile drive, but a week long vacation on some of my favorite roads, with my brother who has never been. Should be a great time!!
