…what’s the deal with the harp logo, you might ask…

the logo is of a “lyre,” which was a harp-like instrument used by the Ancient Greeks.  It turns out that the Ancient Greek’s were among the first users of “picks” in recorded history, and they used it when playing this particular instrument.  The device used to “strike” the strings of the lyre was called a Plektron (Latin: Plectrum).

As for the name Apollo, this was the name of the ancient Greek god of, among other things, Music.

so i guess, the name “Apollo Picks” might have been a suitable name for Ancient Greek plektron maker’s business.

The Norman Blake Picks

The Norman Blake Picks

These picks were developed in collaboration with Norman Blake over the period of three months. The subtleties were carefully refined, and everything is just how it suits his style of playing. The bevel angle and amount, in particular, is different than my standard approach here. I think that you will find that these move quickly through the strings while retaining a fullness in all registers.

If this is your first time here on this site, Welcome!  My name is Nik, and I’m an acoustic music enthusiast/pick-maker. I love the world of acoustic music, both the instruments and the people. I like talking with good folks, and I obsess about tone. I like these things so much in fact that I’ve even written a few articles for Fretboard Journal over the years (See the FAQ page toward the bottom).

Simply put: Apollo Picks is born out of this love.

I’ve got a wonderful F5 mandolin and nice acoustic guitar, and I try to pull every bit of good tone out of them that they have to offer. I went through all of the picks on the market, but I was not fully satisfied until I started making picks of my own. Now I want to share them.

I should also mention that Apollo Picks is still a new small business (started on 10/18/2020) and I’m working on this site to get it just how I want it (I’ve made thousands of picks over the years, but never a website before). I’m a perfectionist, and I want to get the site, like the picks, just right. When I add something new to the site I’ll include an update here.

I think you are going to love these picks!

Lastly, if you are on Facebook or Instagram you can follow me by clicking on one of those small icons on the top left of this page. I’m much into social media, but I’ll just use those to post photos of what’s on my bench from time to time or to send an update about a new development.

Let me know if you have any questions,

Thanks!
